About Galvanised Steel
Galvanised steel is an incredibly useful material wherever steel is needed and there is a risk of corrosion. It has been used for around 160 years, so its durability is well proven.
USES OF GALVANISED STEEL
Common uses include street furniture, utilities, transport, agriculture and sports and leisure. More specifically, bridges, walkways, gantries, lamp posts, ladders, gates, railings, trailers and truck bodies.
Galvanised steel is commonly used for infrastructure including utilities and highways
DURABLE CORROSION PROTECTION
A galvanised coating is one of the most durable forms of corrosion protection available. The metallurgical bond formed in the galvanising process means that the coating becomes part of the steel and is not merely a chemical or mechanical bond. Abrasion resistance is up to ten times greater than the majority of paint coatings, making it less prone to damage when it is stored, handled and transported as well as when it is in place.
Welding Galvanised Steel
Galvanised steel welds very well, but the zinc coating easily vaporises, forming zinc oxide fumes which should be avoided due to various unpleasant short and long term side effects.
COST EFFECTIVE
Galvanised steel is a very cost-effective method of protecting metal from corrosion, it is long lasting and abrasion resistant in a way that other popular methods such as painting or powder coating are not. The dipping process that prolongs the life of your steel is quick and simple with consistent results and the costs for doing it have remained stable for a long time. The direct bond formed between the clean metal and its coating prevents damage to the surface from creeping sideways and compromising the rest of the structure. Galvanised steel can be powder coated or painted to either add colour or to add an extra level of corrosion resistance.
LASER CUT GALVANISED STEEL
Galvanised sheet laser cuts very well. The galvanisation does not permeate the metal, so the laser cut edges will not have protection, these edges may require further protection when assembled.
Galvanised steel sheet
We laser cut galvanised sheet in thicknesses between 0.7mm and 5mm.
