We offer stainless steel laser cutting of various grades in thicknesses from 0.5mm -20mm.

Stainless Steels contain 10–20% chromium as their alloying element and are valued for their high corrosion resistance. These steels are commonly used in medical equipment, piping, cutting tools, and food processing equipment.

Protective Film

We can order stainless steel between the thicknesses of 0.9mm and 3mm with a protective plastic coating which is specifically designed for fibre laser cutting. This will help keep the A face of the product scratch free and will give some protection during the fabrication process.

We are able to order it for 4mm to 6mm but due to the cutting process it normally comes off.

Stainless steel laser cutting in these grades

Grade 304 stainless steel is generally regarded as the most common austenitic (non-magnetic) stainless steel. It contains high nickel content that is typically between 8 and 10.5 percent by weight and a high amount of chromium at approximately 18 to 20 percent by weight, these give 304 stainless steel excellent corrosion resistance. Other major alloying elements include manganese, silicon, and carbon. The remainder of the chemical composition is primarily iron.

Applications for 304 Stainless Steel

  • Appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers
  • Food processing equipment and cutlery
  • Nuts and bolts
  • Piping
  • Structures in environments that would corrode standard carbon steel

Similar to 304, Grade 316 stainless steel has high amounts of chromium and nickel. 316 also contains silicon, manganese, and carbon, with the majority of the composition being iron. A major difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel is the chemical composition, with 316 containing a significant amount of molybdenum, this results in grade 316 possessing increased corrosion resistance, improves resistance to pitting in chloride ion solutions, and increases strength at high temperatures. 316 stainless steel can’t be hardened by heat treatment and can be readily formed and drawn

Applications for 316 Stainless Steel

316 stainless steel is often considered one of the most suitable choices when selecting steel for marine applications. Other common applications of 316 stainless steel include:

  • Chemical processing equipment
  • Exhaust manifolds and heat exchangers
  • Medical devices
  • Marine environments
  • The food industry
  • Paper and textile processing

Type 430 contains only 16 to 18 percent chromium and is better used in applications where demand for corrosion resistance is only moderately high. Due to its excellent finish, it is also often used in decorative trim. Stainless steel 430 has good corrosion resistance and does not harden when subjected to high temperatures. It is also magnetic, unlike type 304. Formability is good, but it is somewhat more difficult to form or weld than stainless steel 304. Additionally, stainless steel 430 has high resistance to certain acids, making it useful for situations where chemical exposure is possible.

Applications for stainless steel 430

  • Automotive trim
  • White goods interiors
  • Splash backs, panelling and table tops
  • Equipment housings
  • Kitchen utensils
  • Flue liners
