About Bending

Learn more about bending and the technology we use at Lasered Components

how does metal bending work?

Metal bending is a process that shapes your chosen material by applying controlled force through press brakes, specifically our advanced Trumpf 5130 and 5170 machines, precisely bending it to meet your design specifications. Using this method, we create smooth, accurate angles and curves, tailored to your exact requirements.

Our Trumpf press brake technology allows us to bend a wide range of metals and thicknesses with exceptional accuracy, maintaining material strength and structural integrity. Unlike traditional methods, our approach ensures consistent precision without compromising on quality.

With a highly automated bending process, we can efficiently handle projects 24/7, delivering short lead times and high turnover for even the most complex shapes.

MATERIAL PROPERTIES THAT IMPACT AIRBENDING PRECISION AND TOLERANCES

The Benefits of Air Bending/Air Forming

  • Only the top two corners of the Die groove and tip of the Punch contact the workpiece.

  • Bend angle is determined by how deep the Punch descends into the Die NOT by the shape of the tooling used.

  • The same tooling is capable of producing a large range of different bending angles. A 30° Die can produce any angle between 30° and 180°.

  • Sharper angle can be produced by lowering the Punch lower into the Die.

  • This method allows corrections to the be made to the bending angle, accounting for any variation in material thicknesses and elastic Spring-back.

  • Fewer marks/scratches on workpiece due to less contact with tooling.

  • Angle precision ±1°

WHY CHOOSE LASER CUTTING?

Laser cutting is a process which works by programming a high-powered laser, to cut shapes out of your chosen material. The material then either melts, burns, vaporises or is blown away by a jet of gas leaving an edge with a high-quality surface finish. Laser cutting is a more precise process than other CNC cutting methods and often uses much less energy.

Fibre laser cutting technology enables us to cut complex shapes and small diameter holes at similar or faster speeds than other cutting methods and without the need for tooling. Precision and edge quality from laser cutting is superior to mechanical cutting methods, because the laser retains integrity as it cuts. In addition, it results in less contamination of the final product.

Our laser cutting process is highly automated, it can run 24 hours a day, facilitating high turnover and short lead times.
