Learn more about aluminium

In its pure form, aluminium is easily worked and possesses a high level of corrosion resistance but its low strength reduces the applications for which it is suitable. When alloyed, however, aluminium becomes an extremely versatile and widely used material, improved strength, corrosion resistance, ductility, workability, weldability and machinability are all possible.

1000 series aluminium is 99% pure, with high corrosion resistance and ductility. 1050 is ideal for sheet metal work, chemical equipment, food containers, architectural flashings, and lamp reflectors.
5000 series aluminium, mainly alloyed with magnesium, offers strength and corrosion resistance. 5251 is ideal for marine structures, aircraft parts, vehicle panels, containers, and welded structures.
High-strength, non-treatable alloy, excels in extreme environments with superior corrosion resistance and weld strength. Ideal for shipbuilding, rail cars, vehicle bodies, and pressure vessels.
6082 aluminium, the strongest 6000 series alloy, offers excellent corrosion resistance and structural strength. Ideal for machining and used in bridges, cranes, transport, ore skips, and industrial containers.

The maximum sheet size for most materials is 3000mm x 1500mm, a 10mm border is required around the outside, so the maximum part size we can cut is 2980mm x 1480mm. There are exceptions to this rule – these are marked in the materials tables.
