Hardox 400 and 500 wear plate laser cut from 3mm to 25mm | Essex facility, UK-wide delivery

We provide Hardox laser cutting and bending services to customers across the UK. Using CNC laser cutting technology at our Essex facility, we cut Hardox wear plate from 3mm up to 25mm thick in grades 400 and 500. Also known as wear plate, abrasion plate, or RaeX steel, Hardox is the go-to material for heavy-duty components that need to withstand serious wear and impact. Need it formed too? We can bend Hardox similarly to mild steel, so you get cut and folded parts from one supplier.

Expert Hardox Laser Cutting

There is no difference in laser cutting Hardox compared with mild steel. The process is the same and so is the edge finish across all thicknesses. The same level of design detail and hole sizes can be achieved, making precision laser cutting ideal for complex wear plate components.

Laser cut Hardox parts are identical from first to last, which matters for high-volume production runs. For prototyping, fast turnaround means you can order, test, and refine until the design is right.

Hardox is expensive compared to standard steel, so minimising waste matters. Laser cutting is the most efficient method for Hardox sheet cutting, keeping material usage tight and costs under control.

Hardox Grades We Cut

Hardox 400

Hardox 400 is a general-purpose wear-resistant steel suitable for moderate abrasion environments. With a Brinell hardness of around 400 HBW, it offers good weldability and is easier to form than higher grades. We cut Hardox 400 from 3mm to 5mm, available to order with lead times varying by thickness.

Hardox 500

Hardox 500 is the tougher option, with a Brinell hardness of approximately 500 HBW. It handles more extreme wear conditions and is the grade most commonly requested for mining, recycling, and heavy construction components. We cut Hardox 500 from 6mm to 25mm, all available to order.

Other Grades

If you need a different grade of Hardox other than 400 or 500, get in touch to see if this is a possibility. Minimum quantities may apply depending on thickness and availability.

Hardox 500

Wear plate is an abrasion resistant plate. The number refers to the hardness of the plate, and the higher the number, the tougher it is and the more expensive it will be. Hardox is a commonly known brand name, but this material can be referred to as wear plate, abrasion plate or occasionally Tuf steel or RaeX steel.

Experience & Capability
We have been doing metal laser cutting for over 25 years. Hardox wear plate cutting is handled on the same Trumpf 12KW and 24KW fibre lasers we use across all materials, so the precision and edge quality is consistent every time.

Combined Services Advantage
Get Hardox cut to size and bent to spec in a single order. One supplier, one delivery, shorter lead times. Cutting and forming happen in the same facility, so there is no coordination between multiple suppliers.

Quality & Traceability
Every part comes with full material certification and traceability. We are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 27001, plus Cyber Essentials accredited. All Hardox stock is stored indoors to prevent corrosion or damage before cutting.

Fast Response
Request a quote and get accurate pricing within one hour during business hours. The sales team handles enquiries directly. No automated systems, no waiting around.

Hardox

Hardness is what gives Hardox its unique wear resistance and structural strength. Hardness minimises wear since it is difficult for the ‘edges’ of abrasive material to cut into the material. Hardox grades deliver high wear resistance during the plate’s entire service life. Hardness also means it has excellent yield and tensile strength, properties that keep a structure in shape without being deformed.

The lead time for Hardox is 3 – 7 days including cutting time, please check with your Estimator for up to date lead times.

Hardox Cutting Applications

Our Hardox laser cutting service covers a wide range of sectors

Whatever the application, wear plate laser cutting handles everything from one-off replacement parts to production runs.

Agriculture & Plant
Ploughshares, harrows, combine parts, and replacement wear components for farm machinery. Hardox withstands the abrasive nature of soil and crop materials, reducing how often parts need replacing.

Transport & Haulage
Trailer floors, dump bodies, and container panels. The high strength-to-weight ratio means lighter structures without sacrificing durability, which helps with fuel efficiency and payload capacity.

Construction & Earthmoving
Bucket liners, wear plates for excavators, crusher components, and tipper body panels. The combination of hardness and toughness means parts last longer under heavy impact.

Mining & Quarrying
Haul truck bodies, screens, chute liners, and conveyor components. Hardox wear plate is the standard choice for equipment operating in highly abrasive environments.

Recycling & Waste
Shredder blades, screens, and wear liners for recycling machinery. The durability keeps equipment running longer between maintenance cycles.

Hardox FAQs

What is Hardox?

Hardox is a brand of abrasion-resistant wear plate. It is also known as wear plate or abrasion plate, and the number in the name refers to its hardness, so the higher the number, the tougher the plate.

What thickness of Hardox can you laser cut?

We laser cut Hardox 400 from 3mm to 5mm and Hardox 500 from 6mm up to 25mm at our Essex facility.

What is the difference between Hardox 400 and Hardox 500?

Both are wear plate, but Hardox 500 is harder and tougher than Hardox 400, giving it greater resistance to abrasion. Other grades can be supplied on enquiry, though a minimum quantity may apply.

What is Hardox used for?

Hardox is used wherever parts take heavy wear, such as digger buckets, liners, chutes, blades and other earthmoving and material handling equipment.

Is Hardox recyclable?

Yes. Hardox is a steel, so it is fully recyclable without any loss of quality.
