What is Laser Cutting and How Does it Work?

Laser cutting is a highly precise and efficient method of cutting sheet metal using a focused fiber laser beam. At Lasered Components, we utilise Trumpf 5030 fiber laser machines with 12KW and 24KW power, allowing us to cut mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass, and copper with exceptional accuracy and edge quality. Our laser cutting process is highly automated, it can run 24 hours a day, facilitating high turnover and short lead times.

How Our Laser Cutting Process Works

Digital Design Input

A CAD file is uploaded, defining the exact shapes and measurements for cutting.

Material Preparation

Sheet metal is automatically loaded onto the cutting bed using our LiftMaster Compact system.

High-Powered Laser Cutting

The Trumpf fiber laser precisely cuts through the metal by melting or vaporising the material along the programmed path.

Assist Gas for Precision

Nitrogen or oxygen is used to enhance cutting quality, ensuring clean, burr-free edges.

Automated Unloading

Cut components are efficiently removed, allowing for continuous production with minimal manual handling.

Why Choose Laser Cutting with Lasered Components?

Precision

Laser cutting is more precise than other CNC cutting methods and, for cutting many types of metal, uses much less energy

Cut complex shapes

Fibre laser cutting technology enables us to cut complex shapes and small diameter holes at similar or faster speed than other cutting methods

High edge quality

Unlike many mechanical cutting methods, the laser retains integrity during the cutting process, providing a consistently high edge quality and low contamination of the final product

Reduced costs

Laser cutting is fast and highly automated plus it can reduce the need for machining or tooling, reducing the cost of manufacture
