What is powder coating and how does it work?2026-06-11T14:12:29+00:00

Powder coating is an advanced surface finishing technique where electrostatically charged powder is applied to a metal surface and cured in an oven. The heat bonds the powder to the metal, forming a hard, durable finish that prevents rust, corrosion and bleaching of the component.

What materials can be powder coated?2026-06-11T14:14:57+00:00

Eurotech offer preparation and coating across all metal types including mild steel, zintec, aluminium, castings, stainless steel and copper.

What surface preparation is carried out before powder coating?2026-06-11T14:17:04+00:00

Eurotech operate a four stage degrease and pretreatment plant including a degrease and zirconium phosphate process, two de-ionised hot water rinses, a rinse incorporating an inhibitor to prevent flash rust, and a trivalent chrome conversion. A sonic cleaner is also used to remove stubborn contaminants prior to pretreatment.

What is shot blasting and do I need it?2026-06-11T14:18:11+00:00

Shot blasting is a mechanical cleaning process that uses high-velocity beads to remove contaminants and debris from the metal surface before coating. Poor surface preparation leads to poor adhesion, flakiness and a significantly reduced coating life. Eurotech accommodate smaller components at their Essex facility and work with a local partner for larger components.

How many colours and finishes do you offer?2026-06-11T14:07:29+00:00

Eurotech stock over 750 colours and finishes covering the full RAL range alongside a wide selection of specialist options including gloss, matt, satin, textured and metallic effects.

Can you match a specific colour?2026-06-11T14:10:51+00:00

Yes. Eurotech can match any colour required and stock a vast range. Their trusted powder suppliers include Interpon by AkzoNobel, Tiger Coatings and Thermaset. Less common colours can be ordered in from stock if not immediately available.

How do I add powder coating to my laser cutting order?2026-06-11T14:22:12+00:00

Let us know when requesting your quote that you require powder coating and include your colour or finish specification. We coordinate the full process from laser cutting through to coated delivery so you only deal with one point of contact.

What are typical turnaround times for powder coated parts?2026-06-11T14:23:57+00:00

Because Eurotech is located directly next door to our Braintree facility, transport handling between fabrication and coating is eliminated, which helps keep lead times as short as possible. Turnaround times vary by volume and complexity. Contact us for an estimate based on your specific order.

Is powder coating suitable for outdoor use?2026-06-11T14:24:42+00:00

Yes. Powder coating prevents rust, corrosion and bleaching, making it suitable for components used in harsh environments and heavy use applications. Zinc primer is also available for components requiring extreme longevity in very harsh conditions such as marine environments.

How durable is a powder coated finish?2026-06-11T14:25:43+00:00

Powder coating produces a highly resistant finish that is tough against wear and tear, rust and corrosion. Eurotech are so confident in the quality of their work that they offer a 15 year guarantee on request, subject to the metal pre-treatment options selected.

Is there a guarantee on powder coated parts?2026-06-11T14:26:29+00:00

Yes. Subject to the metal pre-treatment options selected, Eurotech offer a 15 year guarantee on their work.

What quality checks are carried out?2026-06-11T14:27:08+00:00

Every coated item undergoes a visual inspection after curing. Eurotech test for adhesion, inclusions, gloss and colour accuracy at each stage of the process from preparation through to packaging. Any imperfections are identified and rectified before the product is packaged.

Is powder coating environmentally friendly?2026-06-11T14:28:36+00:00

Yes. Powder coating contains no solvents, produces negligible volatile organic compounds and is a cleaner process than conventional liquid painting. Eurotech are also REACH compliant, with data sheets available on request.
